Where are you volunteering this summer?

Spring Break is upon us, meaning its time to start planning for the summer.  Summers in college should be spent relaxing while simultaneously building your resume.  This could mean grabbing your dream internship at the Capitol leading tours, or it could mean traveling to an exotic location to gain some experiential learning.

What will you be doing in Malaysia? And what exactly are you doing with Machik!? I know you love your internship and I’d love to hear what it is that you’re doing for them!

    Intern Fashion

So I am back at the office after a thrilling spring break in Fairbanks, AK visiting my bestest bestfriend, Laura.  We saw the northern lights and moose!

The Aurora Borealis at its finest!

Thanks for the tips. I would add that dresses with a cardigan over them can also be very nice, as long as the dresses are work appropriate. I have a very nice one with a belt in the center that I wear to my internship a lot of days. I find dresses to be a better option for a petite person like me because dress pants tend to look awful and skirts that would be nice on an average height person look long and dowdy.

    Transition from Spring to Summer

It’s beginning to look like spring in D.C. (finally) but the transition from spring internships to summer internships has already begun. All of my internship applications are in and a lot of places have passed their summer internship deadlines. I’m not sure where I’ll end up working this summer and I might even stay at my current internship at HOTT (The House of the Temple). Wherever I’ll be, I can’t wait for it to be summer already (and spring has barely begun).

I know a lot of people who are in the same position as you about summer internship prospects. Hang in there!

Spring Break means no work, Right?

This last week was spring break. At last, a week of home-cooked meals, my old bed and access to a car. You would think that I wouldn’t have any work to do for my internship then, right?

Well, the beautiful thing about my internship is that I can do my work from anywhere. Two weeks ago, when my supervisor was away at a conference, I worked from my dorm room, saving time (and money!) on my commute and getting the same quality of work done. However, that meant that while at home over break, I was also able to do some work. Granted, I did not work the 15 hours I normally work in a week, but I still did some work, namely making some emails and putting together a pre-recorded interview with Alta Gracia workers for students in California.

I actually have no hard feelings about this however. I know that the work that I am doing is making a real difference in the lives of the workers at Alta Gracia and honestly, I would probably be doing this kind of work even if I was not getting credit for it. Call me a sucker for worker’s rights, but I enjoy doing this kind of stuff.

Take Advantage of the Spring Break

So I have been MIA this past week from my internship – not due to sickness or the federal budget disagreements – but due to Spring Break! Yes, kids, enjoy it while you can: It is one of the few lasting things that I look forward to after years of undergrad, midterms and papers… Having to complete my exams and take-home assignments before taking off (for sunny Mexico), I was relieved and looking forward to a full week of nothing!
