    Annual Meeting Re-Cap

Time for some long overdue blog posts! First and foremost, our annual meeting the last weekend in July was a huge success. I was able to enjoy the speakers and panels I wanted to see and still fulfill my responsibilities ensuring that the meeting ran smoothly. The weekend was a good balance of running the meeting, and taking a break to enjoy the speakers I wanted to see. It was great to finally see all my hard work finally pay off, and I met many inspirational people throughout the course of the weekend.

To anyone undertaking this kind of event planning experience at their internships, the best advice I can offer is to just go with the flow. When things do not go according to plan, which they inevitably won’t, don’t stress about it. Speaker doesn’t show up? Ask one of your attendees to fill in for their spot. Keynote speaker needs a ride from his hotel? It isn’t every day you get to drive around a man who worked with B.F. Skinner. Starbucks forgets to prepare your coffee? Smile and wait for them to fix their mistake. I’m normally a perfectionist about all the little details, so I was quite proud of myself for not stressing out over every little mishap that weekend. A Weekend in Tweets

I have one word to sum up the annual meeting conference this weekend: Wow. But that one word doesn’t even begin to cover my weekend of successes, triumphs and ah-ha moments. Needless to say I am exhausted, inspired, and at the end of the day, giving up my weekend for work was completely 100% worth it. [Many of my friends are shocked by this. I think I’m lucky to have found a job I really care about.] So, since I am too tired to write about everything at the moment, I’ve decided to list my twitter posts from the weekend instead.

Conference Planning is a Lot Like College…

Only one week to go until the annual meeting, and things are getting pretty crazy over at NYRA’s national office. It’s such a great feeling to see something you’ve been planning for so long finally come together. Still, there’s a lot left to do before next weekend. I have to compile descriptions of the meeting workshops, put together conference materials for all the attendees, follow up with some of the sponsorships I haven’t heard back from, call the RSVP list to make sure folks are coming, and make up nametags for all the participants. Mix in the fact that our color printer refuses to cooperate with my laptop and I’ll be tabling for NYRA at Warped Tour on Tuesday, and it’s going to be one heck of a busy week!

    T-Minus 3 Weeks and Counting

With our Annual Meeting fast approaching at the end of this month, things have been pretty crazy over at the National Youth Rights Association. I’ve had my hands full with sponsorship follow-ups, inviting organizations to attend the meeting, and contacting attendees about their travel plans. Here’s a re-cap of some of my exciting experiences/victories over the past few weeks:
